In 1975, Mr. Marcelo Reyes traveled from Chicago to Atlanta where he reunited with his family that had arrived from Tamaulipas, Mexico. The Reyes family decided to open their first restaurant in Marietta, GA in 1979, since there was only one Mexican restaurant in Atlanta at that time. Following the great success of their first restaurant, the family opened a second restaurant during the same year. The family business expanded during the early eighties and a third restaurant was opened in Dalton, GA. The Reyes family discovered there was a lack of tortillas suppliers in the area and decided to open its own tortilla factory in 1984. The main purpose was to supply their restaurants with excellent quality tortillas. The first distribution center opened in Georgia in 1990 and serviced 900 customers in 10 states. The rapidly growing business and extensive distribution led to the second center opening in 1991 in North Carolina. TORTILLERIA EL MAIZAL, INC. opened its third distribution center in Indiana in 1995, and in 2001 opened its most recent center in Mississippi. TORTILLERIA EL MAIZAL, INC. currently distributes its products to 23 states and has a fleet of more than 100 trailers that services about 3,000 customers weekly in the US, South America and Europe. TORTILLERIA EL MAIZAL, INC. is responsible for manufacturing and the distribution of corn and flour tortillas, but it also carries more than 1,000 other food service products. |
